Day 1 | SundayOn a bright and beautiful Sunday morning… J’s husband calls, she had been having some cramping and thinks maybe today is it. I get a little more update, give some suggestions and start my day. Around noon another check-in, eating, drinking, out for a walk in the sunshine, still cramping every 15 minutes.
I go over to check in on her around 3pm – she is doing very well. As afternoon turns to evening and night comes her labor picks up beautifully.
By 11:00pm contractions closer together, lasting longer and much stronger.
Day 2 | MondayBy 1:00am she is full speed ahead to transition time. Close, strong contractions bring louder stronger “birthing-mama” sounds from her. Ohhhhhhhh………ahhhhhhhhhh……..ouchhhhhhhhhh…….she surfaces in between contractions to tell us what she wants or what she doesn’t want.
We are her servants and respond immediately, with love and respect. She gets into the birth pool and you can see the immediate sigh of relief on her face as she immerses herself in the pool of warm water. A few smiles in between the rushes and by 1:30 she is feeling some urges to push. She listens to her body, gentle urges at first. She finds the positions that support and help her… hand and knees, supported squat and in between she rests on the sides of the pool.
Day 2 | MondayThese are strong urges, what do I do? She asks and then she listens to her body and, totally connected to her baby, she lets a the longest, loudest Amazon-woman scream from the depths of her being (I think the neighbors heard her :-) and releases her sweet baby into the waters and immediately reaches down to scoop him up into her arms. Her sweet husband right there at her side…she did it!! The triumph of moving her baby through her body and into her arms brought tears of joy!!
We were all caught up suspended in this sacred moment…another glorious VBAC!!! Another Very Beautiful and Courageous women!!
PS – This sweet baby boy weighed in at 11lbs 2oz…….way to go!!!!!
