Many people like to know what they need to have on hand at home for a home birth and how they can prepare for the birth during pregnancy. Here is a list of basic homebirth preparation during pregnancy and the basic homebirth supplies we like you to have, starting with a birth kit. The birth kit has several items you will use postpartum and a few items that we need during your homebirth.
These next items you will need to purchase separately: |
1 small bottle of olive oil |
1 bottle windex/window cleaner
Herbs for compresses (rosemary, nettle, chamomile, ginger, comfrey) |
The following items, most of which you will already have, should be washed and rinsed in hot water and dried in the sun if possible or dryer. Place in new brown bags or Rubbermaid containers (plastic) and label clearly. Store bags away from pets and children, at least 3 weeks before your expected time of birth. |
4 cotton receiving blankets |
4 large bath towels |
You will also need to have on hand: |
Herbal infusions/teas |
In additions to your supplies, if you have children, you must secure a loving person to do childcare for you. Choose someone that your child (ren) is familiar and comfortable with. You may also want to have someone with you who would be responsible for maintaining your household during your birth. |
